In my opinion,
intrapreneurship is just one step removed from entrepreneurship, therefore today’s
employee should embrace this concept as he or she begins the process of
becoming an entrepreneur. The success that one achieves as an
entrepreneur is determined by many factors, but I believe this to be one of the
key factors that can be what launches him or her into the world of
entrepreneurship.
One thing that I pride
myself on is the ability to incorporate an “entrepreneurial” approach to any task
that I embark upon, whether personal, professional, or academic. There is
something to say about taking pride and responsibility for the decisions one
makes in the workplace. As a full-time employee, I have to work within
the corporate guidelines and rules, however I take advantage of any and all
“flexibility” that is allotted to me to complete a task. I put on my
“entrepreneurship hat” and look at how I can solve an issue as if I was the
sole decision maker...taking full responsibility for all of the success or
failure that my decision may bring about. The major benefit of
functioning like an intrapreneur is the risk is generally minimal compared to
the same decision being made as a business owner.
So I would encourage everyone
to learn about those specific corporate guidelines that should be honored and
respected as an employee of the company, but begin to implement and develop
your entrepreneurial skills as you begin to plan your journey as an
entrepreneur.
