From Intrapreneur to Entrepreneur...

In my opinion, intrapreneurship is just one step removed from entrepreneurship, therefore today’s employee should embrace this concept as he or she begins the process of becoming an entrepreneur.  The success that one achieves as an entrepreneur is determined by many factors, but I believe this to be one of the key factors that can be what launches him or her into the world of entrepreneurship.

One thing that I pride myself on is the ability to incorporate an “entrepreneurial” approach to any task that I embark upon, whether personal, professional, or academic.  There is something to say about taking pride and responsibility for the decisions one makes in the workplace.  As a full-time employee, I have to work within the corporate guidelines and rules, however I take advantage of any and all “flexibility” that is allotted to me to complete a task.  I put on my “entrepreneurship hat” and look at how I can solve an issue as if I was the sole decision maker...taking full responsibility for all of the success or failure that my decision may bring about.  The major benefit of functioning like an intrapreneur is the risk is generally minimal compared to the same decision being made as a business owner.

So I would encourage everyone to learn about those specific corporate guidelines that should be honored and respected as an employee of the company, but begin to implement and develop your entrepreneurial skills as you begin to plan your journey as an entrepreneur.

Starting or operating a business can be a rewarding but often lonely journey!

Recently, I encountered this feeling when I reached an important milestone with my developing my website.  As awesome as the feeling was, I found it difficult to get anyone in my immediate circle to understand how AWESOME it was, which made the accomplishment somewhat bitter sweet.  Although we don’t pursue business ventures for the sole purpose of getting recognition from our family and friends it is helpful to share our experiences both good and bad, it’s therapeutic.

Thankfully, I was able to attend a CSBERG meeting that weekend which gave me an opportunity to share my recent success story.  It was then that I realized that CSBERG offers more than just information about local resources and promoting small businesses.  We’re establishing an extended family of like-minded entrepreneurs willing to support each other as we travel on this bumpy trial together.

Our June 17th Networking Event was a SUCCESS!!!

I want to say thank you to the following people for attending our 2nd Networking Event on Monday, June 17th:

  • Tricia Caldwell
  • Mark Bryan
  • Steve Babcock
  • Janet Fowler
  • Lisa Vance
  • Renee Plowden
  • Deanna Little (co-founder of CSBERG)

I was extremely satisfied by the turnout (as the skies did get gray for a little while) and for the amount of valuable of information that was shared by all attendees! I will be updating both the CSBERG website and website with some of the information that was shared during our discussion!

Special thank you to Steve Babcock, of Soft Wash Wizard, for enlightening me on why I spend the amount of time that I do to prepare for a training session. Yes, I promise to continue to follow the 5-P's; "Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance"

Stay tuned for more information that was shared at our last event!
